Last week, plans to demolish award-winning Anzac Hall were unveiled by the Australian War Memorial.
While fully supporting moves to honour and better tell the stories of Australia’s servicemen and women, National President Clare Cousins said the Institute was shocked at the lack of consultation with the community, the Institute and the architectural moral right holders of the existing structure.
Denton Corker Marshall ( @dentoncorkermarshall ) won the Institute’s prestigious national Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture for the building in 2005.
Yesterday, the Institute launched Hands Off Anzac Hall in Canberra, a new campaign aimed at saving the Australian War Memorial building.
Clare Cousins: “We really feel there is time for them to consider other alternatives”. She was joined by Adrian Fitzgerald of Denton Corker Marshall, as well as building-preservation warrior and comedian Tim Ross @modernister •
